Bosch recently fitted out Club Marconi with a new sound system, transforming the club into the number-one place to be during the soccer World Cup.

Western Sydney’s Italian sporting club, Club Marconi was created in 1956, originally as a meeting place for Italians of the Bossley Park district. Despite its origins, Club Marconi has transformed into one of Sydney’s most cosmopolitan clubs of today, offering sporting, entertaining, educational, and social facilities to the diverse communities in its surrounds. It has more than 38,000 members which represent diverse cultures and is situated on 31 acres of parkland, hosting a stadium and various playing fields.

Club Marconi is renowned for screening live sporting games, especially World Cup tournaments. This year marked the third occasion where Club Marconi opened its doors 24 hours each day to broadcast the World Cup games and accommodate fans from competing countries.

Prior to the onset of the long-awaited event, John Manduci, IT manager of Club Marconi, contacted Saltec’s Customer Service Manager, Scott Masters, to discuss strategies for transforming the 2014 World Cup event into an even greater experience for fans. The first step was improving the visual experience within the Club, where two multi-panel video walls were configured in the main lounge and boutique bar. An upgrade to the sound system was consequentially required to ensure large crowds had an enhanced ability to hear World Cup matches, especially over the top of eagerly cheering fans.

As Club Marconi already had an Electro-Voice Netmax audio processor and a Bosch Praesideo public address system previously installed, there was potential for a system expansion and greater use of the equipment’s capabilities. This was simply achieved through the inclusion of a DSP expansion module within the NetMax, in addition to a TPI-5 touch panel, which can communicate directly to the NetMax to allow any changes to be made, such as shifting volume or muting. A Praesideo audio expander was also installed to take some additional outputs out of the paging system.

A total of 44 Electro-Voice EVID C8.2 ceiling speakers were installed throughout the main lounge and boutique bar. The EVID C8.2s are a high quality, full range, 8” ceiling speaker, which have a high sound pressure level and sound simply stunning.

An additional six Electro-Voice EVID 6.2 surface-mount speakers were installed in the outdoor terrace, as they voice similarly to the EVID C8.2 ceiling speakers. Apart from outstanding sound quality, the EVID C8.2 speakers also have an innovative football-shaped design which perfectly suits the sports club.

Only minor changes to the NetMax configuration program were needed to allow a Praesideo analogue expansion unit. The unit provides a feed from the Praesideo’s digital bus to the powerful Electro-Voice CPS 4.5 amplifier, which work collaboratively as a team.

A 5” Electro-Voice TPI-5 was installed behind the main bar, which allows for effortless control of the three audio zones by the club staff

A 5” Electro-Voice TPI-5 was installed behind the main bar, which allows for effortless control of the three audio zones by the club staff. Bryan Davidson, the Bosch/EV representative for the project stated, “The TPI-5 is such a simple touch panel to configure, it only took a relatively short time to create a nice GUI with faders and push buttons that anyone can walk up to and adjust when required.”

Scott Masters from Saltec was very pleased with the installation process. “The install went like clockwork,” stated Mr. Masters. “The quality of the product we were working with, and excellent support provided by Bryan Davidson, meant that the greatest challenge we faced during this upgrade was carrying the gear in!” he commented.

The patrons at Club Marconi have been awestruck at the clarity and power presented by this new configuration. John Manduci, IT manager at Club Marconi, commented on the final results and time spent working with Bosch, “When you align yourself with an industry heavyweight such as Bosch the results speak for themselves, precision advice, quality, professionalism, proven expertise, and specialist support – what more could you ask for? It was a prudent decision.”

The combination of existing Bosch products with the newly installed equipment creates the ideal environment required for the club’s patrons to feel as if they are “in the stadium” while they are cheering on their team of choice.
