Dynacord and Electro-Voice have been elected to assist in transforming Blundstone Arena’s status into one of the best boutique sporting venues in Australia. Blundstone Arena is primarily a cricket and Australian rules football ground located in Bellerive, on the eastern shore of Hobart, Tasmania. The development involves the re-construction of the Western Stand, which will not only increase capacity to nearly 20,000, but also allows Blundstone Arena to host three matches during the 2015 ICC World Cup.

Wood and Grieve engineers, along with Electronic Technology Consulting, were engaged to design a new sound system for the Western Stand at Blundstone. After investigating several different loudspeaker manufacturers and developing the best coverage angles, products from Bosch brands Dynacord and Electro-Voice were elected for the job.

The recommended Electro-Voice EVH horn-loaded loudspeakers were found to provide the best solution for sound pressure level, speech intelligibility, and price points. Wood and Grieve decided they would go all the way and use NetMax N8000s for the DSP throughout the new Western Stand. Loudspeakers are installed throughout all of the BOH areas, including Electro-Voice’s EVID C8.2 two-way coaxial ceiling loudspeakers mounted in function rooms and corporate boxes. EVID 6.2T surface-mount loudspeakers are spread around level one and level two concourses. Their innovative football-shaped design not only improves sound on the concourses, but also its looks.

Further, paging is handled by the new Dynacord Promatrix 8000 digital paging system, which seamlessly integrates with the eight NetMax N8000s, thereby allowing several paging consoles to be located around the venue for ease of paging into both FOH and any BOH areas throughout the stadium.

The exciting new phase of development at Blundstone Arena is almost complete, with commissioning of the system expected in late 2014.
