Wenty Leagues Club, located in the centre of Sydney, and one of the largest sport and social clubs in the state of NSW, played host to the official Australian launch of ETX Powered Loudspeakers.
The club’s Starlight Auditorium is frequented by local and international artists. Some of the older club members might remember the young Bee Gees, Jerry Lewis, and Johnny O’Keefe gracing the stage.
Following a recent and extensive renovation, the venue was fitted with an Electro-Voice XLD line-array system (including Xsub subwoofers), and EVU (ultracompact) and EVF (front-loaded) speakers. A few weeks after the install, the Starlight Auditorium was used to showcase the entire family of Electro-Voice ETX Powered Loudspeakers. With the concert stage packed with two or more of each ETX model, the invited pro-sound dealers, audio-consultants, and production and hire companies got more than they bargained for. Crisp, powerful, and clear sound filled the entire room, and the subwoofers could be felt a long way back.
During several one-hour sessions held throughout two days, the gathered audio professionals had the opportunity to get up close and personal with each ETX Powered Loudspeaker model. The sizeable concert venue provided a great environment for speakers with such high power and SPL levels.
In the evening, during the official launch event, a NAMM-style demonstration of the ETX Powered Loudspeaker family took place. Pairs of each model and pairs of combinations were put through their paces to various soundtracks. The cardioid mode for the subwoofers was also demonstrated.
After a presentation of the key loudspeaker features, The Robertson Brothers, local EV-endorsed artists, entertained the crowd. Again, the music was channeled through various combinations of the ETX Powered Loudspeaker family. As a treat towards the end of the event, the in-house sound technician allowed the guests to experience the sound from the venue’s permanently installed XLD system.
Representatives from audio magazines commented on both the power and great sound quality produced by the ETX family, while pro-sound dealers had trouble deciding which models and combinations sounded better. “Great sound,” and “they go hard” were frequently heard comments.
However, it was a statement from the bartender that probably summed up the evening the best: “I am a big audio enthusiast. I have never seen or heard anything like this before. This was awesome!”
