| Electro-Voice Sx600, EVF, EVH and ZXi models now satisfy the European standard for voice alarm systems |
The EN-54 series of standards was introduced in 1996 to cover all aspects of fire alarm systems in use throughout Europe. In view of the trend towards combined fire detection and voice alarm systems, in April 2011 the series was extended to cover voice alarm systems as well. EN 54-24 is, therefore, the new standard stipulating the required specifications, test procedures and performance criteria for passive loudspeakers used in voice alarm systems.
“The certification of our loudspeakers to conform the EN 54-24 standard offers our customers Europe-wide assurance that they meet the rigorous requirements it lays out,” comments Oliver Sahm, Technical Support ProAudio EMEA. “For example, in the planning of an arena sound reinforcement system, customers can now be certain they are obtaining tested products with a corresponding quality guarantee. The certification is now the confirmation from an official institution that even those of our systems that have been performing successfully for years still conform to all the relevant guidelines and satisfy the latest safety standards.”
The following Electro-Voice loudspeakers systems were recently certified to conform with EN 54-24:
- Electro-Voice Sx600 series two-way loudspeakers
- Electro-Voice EVF-1122S front-loaded systems
- Electro-Voice EVH-1152D horn-loaded systems
- Electro-Voice Zx1i series two-way loudspeakers
An accredited independent European test centre was employed to confirm that the devices conformed with all relevant criteria set out in EN54-24. The Electro-Voice loudspeakers were put through their paces under a variety of environmental and mechanical conditions where their design, construction, robustness, reliability and performance were each subjected to meticulous examination before the certification could be awarded. “With this large choice of different products and indeed entire product series we play a pioneering role. With immediate effect we are able to offer pro sound loudspeakers that – additionally to their general sound performance – can also attain the safety objectives stated in EN 54-24, even under the most demanding acoustic conditions: the provision of clearly intelligible voice alarm messages.”
