First Baptist Church of Florence is located approximately 30 minutes south of Jackson, Mississippi. The church approached Elite Multimedia, Inc. after receiving a positive referral from another Mississippi-based church which has been a long time customer of Elite.
Elite met with the church's worship minister and audio technician to discuss the church’s needs from their audio system. The church’s original sound system consisted of a small number of midrange boxes and far/near horns that only partially covered the main floor and provided very little coverage to the balcony space.
After extensive discussions, two options were considered. The first system was a conventional box system with delays for the balcony and the second system was a line array system. Given the location of the baptistry and video screen, Elite recommended a conventional approach so that the sight lines were not disturbed. Elite installed two main loudspeaker arrays with front fills, including four main Electro-Voice EVF speakers and two EVA subwoofers, to cover the main seating area and an additional nine delay loudspeakers installed along the balcony.
Along with the new loudspeakers, Elite provided and installed new amplifiers and digital system processing, replaced the choir monitors, and supplemented the system with additional stage-fill monitors. Elite also provided network connectivity to the digital processor and created a user interface which provides the church control over the different speaker zones for testing and allows them to mute selected speakers when the balcony is not in use.
