Established in 1962, Wentworthville Leagues Club – Wenty Leagues for short – aimed to service the local community and get youngsters off the streets. Today, with close to 50,000 members, Wenty Leagues is a top-ten sports and social club in the state of New South Wales. Located right in the middle of Sydney, it services the city’s second largest CBD area, featuring five restaurants, four bars, lounges, an indoor kids play area and a 600-seat auditorium. Wenty Leagues also has a rich history of hosting local and international music acts, having had artists like the young Bee Gees and Johnny O’Keefe perform in-house.
The Starlight Auditorium, in particular, features a concert stage, dance floor, a seated dining area, and a bar. Apart from holding Bingo sessions and large meetings, the auditorium mainly serves to hold entertainment shows and concerts for club members and visitors. In a bid to upgrade the auditorium’s facilities, it was found necessary to replace the existing concert sound system. The new sound system had to be easy to use and set up for simple functions without an experienced operator. Wenty Leagues also needed a sound system that would meet the sound requirements of touring bands, eliminating the need for bands to bring their own equipment.
To provide great concert sound in the room’s natural dimensions, the new sound system had to accommodate to the room’s wide space, glass features, and multilevel floor areas that could potentially create points of sound dispersion. There is also a lack of height at the Front-of-House. Lastly, they required an easy way to switch between a full concert mode and a simple setup.
Wenty Leagues found the Electro-Voice XLD compact line-array loudspeaker system to be perfect for the job. It met the performance requirements, answered the challenges, and fit the budget profile.
