Gent by Honeywell has strengthened its extensive range of innovative technology by launching its first Emergency Voice Communications Systems (EVCS).
The EVCS range offers a means of secure communications for various applications such as disabled refuge, fire wardens and public help points, or as a combined system when both fire telephones and disabled refuge points are required.
EVCS are fixed and secure audio points which allow voice communications between fire officers and building occupants from a central location. The communications are fully-duplex and bi-directional thereby offering a source of reassurance for occupants requiring assistance in emergency conditions.
These latest additions to Gent’s extensive range of FDA equipment were designed to meet all of the requirements of the relevant code of practice, BS5839 Part 9. The Standard relates to the use of EVCS in assisting both firefighters and those responsible for evacuating buildings, including evacuation of occupants with limited mobility.
The new range of Gent EVCS gives the customer the flexibility to choose the ideal system according to the building’s requirements. For buildings that require a small, cost effective disabled refuge solution, the Compact 5 or Compact 9 EVCS are perfectly suited. To accommodate slightly larger applications it is possible to easily extend the Compact 9 coverage to have up to 19 refuge points or fire telephones. For large complexes such as high rise buildings and shopping centres it is possible to use the loop based Network 8 system which is capable of monitoring up to 256 refuge points or fire telephones.
Control of EVCS is simple and straightforward, as the master handset has a clear, four line backlit display which shows the calling outstation name in plain text. There is a conference call option and calls can be made to outstations by either dialling the number of the unit, or choosing the name from a text dialling directory.
The systems can connect to a comprehensive range of outstations, all of which comply with BS5839 Part 9. Depending on the location and use, either a type A outstation can be selected, with a monitored telephone style handset, or a type B, with a monitored hands free outstation call system. Both provide full duplex speech capability and are available in a selection of finishes and colours. In addition to the type A and B outstations it is also possible to connect Gent’s emergency assist unit’s directly to any of the EVCS range. This allows the user to monitor the status of any disabled toilet area’s from the same location as the disabled refuge.
