| Lab.gruppen C Series amplifiers provide clear reproduction of speech and live music |
Since 1993, when the Church of Philippi first opened its doors in Hanover, MD, their worship has been shaped by the belief that they’ve been called to act as a bridge between heaven and earth.
In doing so, they’ve also acted as a bridge between the Korean and English speaking worshippers who have made the Church Of Philippi their home.
Over time, however, as both the English and Korean congregations grew, the church began to look for a larger building to accommodate them and in 2009 moved to a new, larger facility. Although both English and Korean language services are still conducted in the same space, their services differ greatly.
“We hold five kinds of worship services on Sunday – the largest featuring a full electric praise band augmented with strings and a choir,” explains media staff member and sound engineer Denny Park.
With that kind of audio requirements, the team needed to make sure they had reliable power behind their sound system, and for that, only one brand would fit the bill.
“That’s why we chose Lab.gruppen C Series amplifiers to drive the church’s main PA and monitors,” adds Michael Yoo, senior system engineer of Genesis Technology, the designer/installer on the project. “They provide equally clear reproduction of speech and live music which meets the needs of both congregations long-term.”
Two C 48:4 amplifiers (4 × 1200 watts at 4 ohms) drive the EAW line arrays with another two C 16:4 amplifiers (4 × 400 watts at 4 ohms) powering the monitors. With rack space limited, their compact 2U chassis was another benefit.
“Although the new, 900-seat sanctuary is larger than the church’s previous home, the amount of room for equipment remains extremely limited,” Yoo continues. “They wanted clean power and a lot of it, and the C Series amps allowed us to give them that as well as to provide an energy efficient solution that saved a lot of space.”
