Around 30 students and lecturers from the internationally renowned media educational institution SAE Institute visited Bosch Communications Systems’ EMEA headquarters in Straubing on September 30th. Responsible for the initiative was Manuel Pal, Industry Relations & Career Coach at SAE, and the sound engineering students found that a full program had been prepared for them. After a brief series of introductions, Jürgen Langhorst, Sales Manager Germany, related the history of the Bosch brands Electro-Voice and Dynacord. Oliver Sahm, Bosch’s Director Marketing Application Design, then detailed the most important parameters for achieving optimum intelligibility from electro-acoustic systems. He went on to give the students the benefit of his extensive experience with a talk entitled “Acoustic Tips and Tricks”.

After a break for lunch came a tour of the works. This allowed participants to follow the entire production process from the building of the enclosures to the final testing. The SAE students then visited Europe’s largest demo hall to hear the various systems – ranging from small monitors to big line arrays – in action.

Since digital IP technology is of ever increasing importance nowadays in audio engineering, the focus turned at this point from practice to theory. As well as revisiting the fundamental principles of digital technology of relevance to the pro sound industry, students were introduced here to the IRIS-Net software and the network technology OMNEO.

“We were privileged in the SAE team to welcome highly interested and committed guests who already possessed an impressive command of the subject,” commented Langhorst. “To spend the day with the pro audio elite of tomorrow was a great pleasure for all of us.”

Commented Andreas Friesecke, SAE’s Academic Director Germany: “It was a very exciting day for us all and gave us a valuable insight into the company’s product lines and production techniques. I was impressed by the enormous professionalism of the workforce – not to mention the astounding acoustic possibilities we witnessed in the demo hall.”
